The riches of this island invite us to admire a spectacle made by the nature itself. This wildlife area was declared National Park in August 1966 and re-classified natural monument in 1982. Its objective is to protect the avifauna of the island, such us, Magellanic, penguins, cormorant and sea gulls, among others. This island constitutes one of the largest, penguin colonies in Chile, with a population estimated in more than 50.000 pairs of Magellanic Penguins (Sphenicus Magallanicus), which is more than 95% bird life bio-massin the area. Magdalena Island is located in the center of the Strait of Magellan, 35 kilometersnorth fo the City of Punta Arenas, and the excursion itself begins through the waters of the mythical Strait for two and a half hours, cutting through the same navigation route of the most daring explorers in the world, such as, Sir Francis Drake, Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa, Hernando de Magallanes and Charles Darwin, among others. Upon arrival, we will walk through thousands of penguins that will greet us. The trail takes us to the light house, from where we have a great panoramic view dominating the island and surrounding areas. The time on the island lasts one hours approximately.
